CONCRETE BLOCK PAVING FOR ROADS

1976
Attractive and durable, concrete block paving which has been used in Europe for roads and other areas intended for low speed traffic, is competitive with other forms of road surfacing and has advantages where roads need to be broken into to attend to underground services. This publication, which is intended to assist with the design, detailing, specification and construction of residential roads with concrete block paving, is based upon knowledge gained from construction overseas, research in the U.S., and advice contributed by local authority engineers and architects, and paving block manufacturers. The elements (sub-base, laying course, surface course, and edge restraint) comprising a concrete block road are iedentified and detailed. Design details (drainage, geometry, gully and inspection cover, line and other markings) are also outlined. Sub-base preparation, laying course and surface course construction, and site orgainization is described, and requirements relating to blocks and construction tolerances are set forth.
