EVOLUTION OF LAND-USE PATTERNS AND AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS

This paper considers the sequent human utilization and modification of the diverse physical landscapes of the Northern Andes. Emphasis is placed on the common landuse patterns and institutions which traditionally have bound the nations of the region. The historical bases of the chronic underdevelopment of the agricultural sector are explored. Lastly, future regional agrarian land-use research needs are presented.
