A new solution of actual scientific and technical problem that consists in justification of the criteria and structure of means of technical diagnostics cutting head of road headers, enabling a choice of strategy of cutting tool replacing to ensure higher tunneling rates and lifetime of combine’s structural elements is given in the thesis. The mathematical model of the process of destruction face road-header selective action, taking into account the differing unscheduled, as well as a working tool wear. Found that working with a broken tool at the cutting head, depending on its position in the scheme set leads to lower life-time transmission of road-header to 70 %. Parameter diagnosing failures cutting tools is the ratio of the coefficients of the spectral decomposition of the motor current, corresponding to the frequency of rotation of the cutting head and its twice the value. At utmost replacement intervals worn tools reduction in the life-time elements of transmission is 40-60 %. Parameter diagnosing the need to replace worn tools is the specific energy consumption per face cutting cycle. Developed the structure and functioning algorithm of technical diagnostics and maintenance optimization cutting head. The results adopted GP «Dongiprouglemash» for use in modernization of the KPD and KPA road-headers.
