FRICTIONAL PROPERTIES OF SITALL* MATERIALS UNDER END-FACE RUBBING CONDITIONS

1978
1. At high sliding speeds the best combination of frictional characteristics is exhibited by a Sitall-base material with a metallic filler. 2. The improved operating performance of Sitall with a metallic filler is attributable to the formation of protective shielding films on the surfaces of the mating components of friction pairs, made possible by the ability of the metallic lubricant to flow into the working zone and attach itself to the surface of the mating part. 3. Results of laboratory friction and wear tests suggest that Sitalls with metallic fillers may prove useful as materials for friction units operating under end-face rubbing conditions at high sliding speeds.
