X-rays from pionic 3He

Abstract Pionic X-ray energies, lorentzian widths, and relative intensities have been measured for the transitions in liquid 3 He. The pion-nucleus interaction is found to result in an attractive shift of the 1s level of 27 ± 5 eV and in a lorentzian width of 65 ±12 eV. The measured K β to K α intensity ratio is 1.05±0.07.
