Cutaneous Irritant and Sensitizing Potential Of 2-Ethyl-1,3-Hexanediol in Human Subjects

1989
AbstractStudies in paid human volunteer subjects indicated that undiluted 2-ethyl-1,3-hexanediol may produce minor primary skin irritation by single sustained contact in 4 of 30 (13%) subjects, and slight to moderate cumulative skin irritation by recurrent sustained dermal contact in 25 of 27 (93%) subjects. Evidence for skin sensitization was obtained in only 1 of 203 (0.5%) subjects, and was seen only when the agent was used under occluded conditions. 2-Ethyl-1,3-hexanediol may be a weak skin sensitizer.
