A new method for the preparation of aromatic ISO thiocyanates

A new method is given for the preparation of aromatic isothiocyanates from the corresponding dithiocarbamates. The latter compounds are converted into S-(carboxymethyl) -dithiocarbamates, which spontaneously decompose at pH 7 in the presence of certain heavy metal ions to yield isothiocyanates. The reaction mechanism is discussed.
