Electrolytic thinning of Au-Zn(-Cu) alloys

A method was developed for the preparation of Au-Zn(-Cu) specimens for use in transmission electron microscopy, based on the twin-jet electropolishing technique. The electrolytes chosen were solutions containing acetic and perchloric acids and an alkali-metal chloride in methanol. Large polished areas with good transparency were obtained.
