A new beamline at the SRS: Line 8

1986
Abstract A new X-ray beamline has been built on the dipole magnet “8” of the Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS). This beamline takes 40 mrad of horizontal aperture from an upstream tangent point where the source size is appreciably smaller, 4.5 mm×1.2 mm fwhm. This beamline is designed to provide synchrotron radiation to five branch lines. Three of the branch lines (stations) are completed and initial scientific data is obtained. Some special features have been incorporated such as beam position detectors, built in laser system to align the optical components, high vacuum conditions along the whole line, retractable Be windows, a novel mirror bending system and a slitless high power high resolution monochromator for EXAFS. In this paper various aspects of the beamline are described.
