Multi-objective Modeling and Optimization for DG-Owner and Distribution Network Operator in Smart Distribution Networks

2018
Abstract The political initiatives of the few last decades on energy saving and the power generation decarbonization are forcing distributors to implement actions that increase the hosting capacity for new renewable generation on their systems without worsening the energy efficiency of the networks. In this context, the planning process of the distribution networks needs to be reformulated because their optimal development at minimum cost is no longer the only target to achieve. In many cases, the new goals contradict each other and cannot be handled by conventional single-objective optimization techniques. Therefore, new software-planning tools, based on multi-objective approaches, become necessary to correctly assess all point of views of the different stakeholders and to identify the better compromising solutions. One important challenge of the distribution system planning that distributors have to face is the optimal development of the distributed generation on their networks, which is the topic of this chapter.
