The invention discloses an acidic electrolytic zinc plating solution additive and an application method thereof. The additive is composed of the following components in percentage by weight: 10 to 90% of long chain alkyl benzene sulfonate or/and heterocyclic organic amine and 10 to 90% of water or/and ethanol. The additive can improve the lightness and flatness of zinc coating, and enables the zinc coating to have a very good dispersing performance and covering performance. By adding the additive in an acidic plating solution, zinc coating with a high surface performance can be obtained in a wide temperature range and a wide current density range, the uniform electroplating performance of the electroplate technology can be improved, and at the same time the corrosion of acidic plating solution on electrolytic zinc equipment is reduced. The additive has the advantages of little using amount, high efficiency, no toxic or odor, complete dissolution in water, and wide application range. The application method of the additive is very simple. 50 to 1000 ppm of additive can be directly added into an acidic electrolytic zinc plating solution to carry out zinc electroplating so as to obtain electrolytic zinc coating having the advantages of good surface performance, little internal stress in the coating, and high corrosion resistance, and the processing time is very short.
