Combining Ability Studies for Yield, Fibre Quality and Morphological Traits in Desi Cotton (Gossypium arboreum L.)

In the present study three lines and 10 testers were crossed in line x tester fashion. The 30 F1 hybrids along with 13 parents were grown to estimate GCA and SCA for four yield and yield contributing traits. four economic traits and four morphological traits. The parent PA 402 followed by JLA 1993 and PA 478 showed good GCA effects for yield and most of yield attributes. Among the hybrids. the best performance for seed cotton yield, lint yield and ginning outturn and SCA effects were noticed by crosses PA 402 x PA 415 followed by PA 183 x PA 363 and PA 402 x PA 375 exhibiting importance of both additive and non additive gene effects for genetic improvement.
