The application performance of the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status among normal persons in Beijing

2010
Objective:To investigate the administration performance of Chinese version of the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status(RBANS)among representative normal persons in Beijing. Methods:Six communities/villages were selected stratified-randomly as sampling points, and, for each of age groups of 18~29,30~39,40~49,50~59,60~69,70~79,sixty representative normal persons were recruited in line with the demographic proportion of census in Beijing. The RBANS was administered to these subjects and the raw scores of all subtests were converted into 5 index scale scores and finally into the total scale scores(the value expressed by 100±15)by series of Z-score transformation. The effects of gender, age, education upon RBANS scores were explored by multivariate analysis.Results:(1)The distributions of the scale scores of RBANS through all age groups possessed very homogeneous trait(e.g.,no significant difference was found in total scales score between age groups of 30~39 and 60~69[(100.8±15.3)vs.(100.1±15.3)].(2)Except that men got higher scores than women upon subtest Line[(15.4±3.3)vs.(13.6±3.9),P0.001],there showed no gender difference of RBANS scales all through the subjects.(3)Except Picture Naming and Semantic Fluency, other subtests' raw scales declined with the increase of age through the subjects(e.g.,the raw scores of Coding through all age groups were remarkable different as scores were 54,46,38,33,25,and 17,respectively(Ps0.001).(4)All scale scores ascended with the going up of the educational level of the subjects(e.g.,there was significant difference between subjects with middle school education and those with high school education in the total scales scores(97 vs.102,P=0.008).Conclusion:The profile of administration performance of Chinese Version of RBANS of representative normal persons in Beijing has been built. And it shows that it is not gender but age and education that has remarkable effect on the administration performance.
