The Future of Heart Replacement

The surgical techniques of orthotopic and heterotopic transplantation have been standardized and are unlikely to change appreciably in the foreseeable future. Rejection following the transplant operation can now be reliably detected by endomyocardial biopsy, though this technique may soon be replaced by a non-invasive technique such as radionuclide scanning.
