Perfil hematológico de tigres d’água (Trachemys dorbigni) de uma população do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

The hematological profi le and total solids concentration were evaluated in the plasma from 29 Slider turtles (Trachemys dorbigni) through two extreme seasons (summer and winter). There was seasonal variation in hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, showing higher values during the summer. The other parameters did not present variations between seasons. The hematocrit, hemoglobin and plasma solids values obtained were lower than those of other turtles species. The erythrocyte count, mean corpuscular volume and total leukocyte count presented similar values to those found in the literature for fresh water turtles. Eosinophils stand for most of the leukocytes followed by basophils, heterophils, lymphocytes and monocytes. The following data is the fi rst to T. dorbigni and can assist the veterinarians who often face with this species in your routine.
