Comparison and analysis the humanistic quality between professional degree postgraduates of clinical medicine and their teachers

Objective Comparing and analyzing the status quo of humanistic qualities of medicine postgraduates with that of the teachers who teach them, and provide the reference for traditional medical humanities education reform. Methods By using the self-made questionnaire, a survey was conducted among 700 medical postgraduates and 300 instructors in The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. Questionnaire contents included basic information of the subjects, their own qualities, the relationships with their colleagues and the relationships with the patients, cultural theory exam, the doctor-patient communication and clinical thinking skills. The survey data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 software and the results were expressed by the relative number. After the survey finished, the data was analyzed statistically. T-test was used in the comparison between groups. Results In the humanities theory examinations, there was no difference between the two groups ; Comparing the graduate students with their instructors, students showed better than the teachers in terms with the relationships and the differences were statistically significant; On the contrary, instructors were more excellent than students with respect to their own literacy, the doctor-patient communication and clinical thinking skills (P<0.05). Overall, the teachers was more significant for the group compared to students. Conclusions The humanity quality level of the instructors group was generally higher than the graduate students group. Moreover, traditional teaching model needs to be improved to strengthen the graduate humanities quality education, and narrow the gap between the two groups.
