Treatment of Extracranial Vertebral Artery Aneurysm with Flow Diversion: A Case Report.

2020
BACKGROUND: Aneurysms of the extracranial vertebral artery (VA) are rare and their treatment options are therefore not standardized. Here, we present a simply and promising treatment option of an extracranial vertebral artery aneurysm with flow diversion. CASE DESCRIPTION: In this case, a 72-year-old female who had sustained a right extracranial VA aneurysm under the computed tomography angiography. The saccular aneurysm (7.9x6.6 mm) was demonstrated by the digital subtraction angiography at the V3 segment of the right VA. A pipeline embolization device (PED) was placed in the diseased parent artery. A 12-month follow-up confirmed the patency of the PED. CONCLUSION: The flow diversion for treatment could be a promising option for V3 segment aneurysm treatment. Postoperative asymptomatic partial in-stent stenosis is tolerable.
