Life cycle assessment of energy consumption and CO2 emissions of biodiesel made from food waste oil.

Life cycle energy consumption and CO_2 emission analysis of bio-diesel made from food waste oil using chemical catalysis method were conducted.Bio-diesel product with energy content of 1 MJ was taken as the functional unit.Results indicated that life cycle total energy consumption of bio-diesel was 1.6489 MJ,life cycle fossil energy consumption was 0.6169 MJ,fossil energy efficiency ratio was 1.62,life cycle net energy was 0.3831 MJ,and life cycle net CO_2 emission was-10.34 g.Compared with petrochemical diesel with equal energy,the life cycle total energy consumption of bio-diesel made from food waste oil using chemical catalysis method increased by 37%,life cycle fossil energy consumption reduced by 49%,and 90.99 g CO_2 emission could be reduced.
