Physical-chemical characterization of tarfaya's oil shale r sub-zones

1998
Summary In this study we are investigating the physical- chemical characteristics of different sub-zones of Tarfaya's oil shale zone (R), using various techniques such as elemental analysis, XRD, TEM, TGA, and DSC. X-ray Diffractometry (XRD) shows that the mineral part of the five sub-zones is mainly constituted of carbonates (calcite predominant), quartz and a very small amount of pyrite and clays. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) indicate that the reactivity and the H/C ratio follow the order R 1 , R 3 , R 4 , R 2 and R 0 . The H/C ratio is also in the same order. The higher the H/C ratio the higher is the reactivity.
