Anterior approach for hepatectomy before piggy-back liver transplantation in giant polycystic liver disease.

Polycystic liver disease (PLD) is a rare, benign hepatic disorder characterized by multiple cysts in the liver parenchyma. While most patients are asymptomatic, hepatomegaly due to innumerous, large fluid-filled cysts can cause abdominal distension and impaired activity in about 20% of cases. Medical treatment comprises of somatostatin-analogues or mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors, as well as interventional radiology arterial embolization or inferior vena cava (IVC) stenting.
