The challenge of sustainable development in new facility construction and operation
1991
At the end of October 1989 Comaico Aluminium (Bell Bay) Limited commissioned a new facility for baking carbon anodes used in the aluminium reduction process. Construction was completed in two years and was preceded by a similar time span for the approval process. Before work could start on this project approval process long term options for the Bell Bay smelter were explored. This study confirmed the consistency of the new facility with the general principles of sustainable development.
