CENTRAL OSSIFICANT FIBROMA IN THE MAXILLA: DISCUSSION OF A CLINICAL CASE
2020
Ossifying fibroma is a benign neoplasm of fibro-osseous origin, rare, and mainly affecting the mandible. It is characterized by the replacement of bone tissue by connective tissue rich in fibroblasts and collagen fibers that present morphologies and varying amounts of calcified tissue. Our objective is to report the case of a male, 18 years old, who attended the odontologic clinic with complaint of edema in the face of evolution of 5 months without symptomatology. In the extra-oral examination, there was an increase of volume in the zygomatic region and right malar. An incisional biopsy was performed for histopathologic analysis, and panoramic radiography and multislice computed tomography were requested. The diagnosis was made with a combination of clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic examination, which confirmed a fibro-osseous lesion compatible with ossifying fibroma. Surgical enucleation with tumor curettage under general anesthesia was performed. The patient was followed up clinically and radiographically postoperatively, without complaints.
