THE STATUS OF GROUND WATER FLUORIDE IN RAJASTHAN: A CASE STUDY OF DEVLI TEHSIL, TONK DISTRICT

2014
An attempt has been made to find out the concentration of fluoride in drinking water samples drawn from open wells and hand pumps of Devli Tehsil of Tonk district (Rajasthan). It was found that ground water of Tonk district is contaminated with fluoride by naturally fluoride rich rock salt system. The groundwater samples were randomly collected from 95 villages of Devli Tehsil. Fluoride concentration varies from 0.2 to 15.8mg/L in drinking water samples. Highest fluoride concentration was found to be 15.8 mg/L in Duburkala village. Respectively dental and skeletal fluorosis is quite prevalent in these villages. Physiochemical analysis was the main consideration to assess the quality of water for is best utilization for drinking and irrigation. The result of this study help in enhancing awareness of human health hazards of contaminated water.
