Lanthanum-strontium cobaltates with perovskite and layered structures as catalysts of methanol oxidation

2005
Complex oxides of the composition La 1 - x Sr x CoO 3 (x = 0, 0.3, and 0.5) and LaSrCoO 4 with perovskite-like structures obtained cryosynthetically were studied as catalysts of the oxidation of CH 3 OH at 200°C. The partialoxidation of methanol to formaldehyde was found to follow a step mechanism with the participation of structural oxygen. The complete oxidation of the alcohol to carbon dioxide involved the dissociative adsorption of molecular oxygen.
