Collaborative practice in advanced practice nursing in acute care.

Collaborative practice between physicians and nurses has evolved over many years. Several collaborative models exist in the literature; however, the collaborative process is one that develops over time and requires mutual trust and open communication. This article reviews and discusses issues in collaborative practice in advanced practice nursing (APN). Examples of collaboration from several nurses working in advanced practice roles with physicians in acute care settings are provided that outline important components.
