Correlação entre a composição corporal e a potência de membros superiores e inferiores em triatletas

2020
Triathlon is a sporting modality that includes three races sequentially contested, which are, swimming, cycling, and running. The result of a race may be influenced by the athlete's ability to generate power, which is the joining of two conditioning motor capacities, which are strength and speed. On the other hand, power may be correlated with body composition, in this sense the objective of the present study was to correlate body composition and potency of upper and lower limbs. Seven amateur triathletes who took the Horizontal Jump and Medicine Ball tests for power participated in the study and underwent a body composition test. The results were strong positive correlation in the variables of muscle weight and arm perimeter for upper limb potency; presented a moderate negative or positive correlation of bone weight, total weight, height and length of upper limbs for upper limb power, and fat weight, fat percentage, total weight, height and thigh perimeter for lower limb potency; weak negative or positive correlation the variables of muscle weight, bone weight and lower limb length for lower limb potency, and fat weight and fat percentage for upper limb potency. This study concluded that only the variables of muscle weight and upper limb length showed a strong correlation with the Medicine Ball test. For the Horizontal Leap test, no strong correlation was found.
