Cluster/cage-based coordination polymers with tetrazole derivatives

2020
Abstract Over the past two decades, cluster/cage-based coordination polymers (CPs) with tetrazole derivatives developed rapidly and drew tremendous attention in both academic and industrial fields. These tetrazole derivatives own diversified substituent groups, including –COOH, –OH, –NH2 or –CH3, etc. Actually, the rational selection of tetrazole ligands plays a decisive role in the syntheses of targeted CPs. In this review, we focus on the synthetic methods, architectural features and properties of cluster/cage-based CPs with tetrazole derivatives by the end of 2018, being summarized as follows: Firstly, we provide an overview of the coordination modes and synthetic methods of tetrazole derivatives; Secondly, 253 cluster/cage-based CPs with tetrazole derivatives will be introduced, covering homometal tetrazole-based cluster/cage CPs and heterometal ones. These CPs present organic molecules as well as chemocatalysis in CO2 fixed conversion, photocatalyses of organic dyes, electroreduction of hydrogen peroxide and nitrite. Finally, we outline some prospects and expectations in this field of chemistry, including various synthetic methods and potential functions. The tables and charts will be provided to describe the abbreviations and structures of tetrazole ligands as well as the molecules, nuclear number and properties of these CPs. Importantly, the readers will be guided to study the relevant reviews and articles on tetrazole derivatives, and we hope more scientific workers can be inspired to design and synthesize unique metal cluster/cage CPs based on tetrazole derivatives with various functions.
