Helle Fensterprofilmaterialien: Alterungsverhalten auf Basis von peroxidisch vernetztem EPDM

2010
The thermo-oxidative ageing behaviour of non-black, peroxide-cured EP(D)M compounds is investigated by traditional hot-air ageing experiments and by oxidation-induction experiments in dependence on the third monomer (type and content). To quantify the efficiency of the third monomer on the peroxide curing efficiency, the ENB equivalent is used. The EPM copolymer (ENB eq. = 0) and the VNB-EPDM (highest ENB eq) have the best ageing resistance. The type of the oil plasticiser and various heat stabiliser systems for the VNB-EPDM show the advantage of technical grade, paraphinic oil against medical grade, white oil. With quite simple heat stabiliser packages the thermo-oxidative ageing is significantly improved. Finally, it is shown that with the VNB-EPDM the RAL-GZ 716/1 requirements can be met at relatively low peroxide levels, accompanied with further improvement of resistance against thermo-oxidative and UV ageing.
