Laser optical frequency control at 1.3 and 1.55 µm using a nonlinear multilayer semiconductor waveguide

1994
Future high density multiwavelength communication systems will require an ensemble of laser sources whose frequencies can be set accurately and maintained fixed in order to achieve long-term stability. Considering the excellent short-term frequency stability of today's DFB lasers,1 frequency control within closely spaced high bit rate optical carriers networks could be realized through periodic measurement and correction of free-running semiconductor lasers.
