Liquid crystal display panel in matrix arrangement

1978
The liquid-crystal display panel in a matrix arrangement has a pair of bases (40, 42), one of which (42) carries a plurality of gate lines (44), a plurality of source lines (50) perpendicular to the gate lines and a thin-film transistor arrangement at each intersection point between the gate lines and source lines, while the other base (40) is provided with a transparent and electrically conducting layer (41). A layer (54) comprising a liquid-crystal material is inserted between the transistor arrangement on the one hand and the transparent and electrically conducting layer (41) on the other hand. The thin-film transistor (44, 46, 48, 50, 52) has a semiconductor layer (48) of tellurium which offers the considerable advantage over the known cadmium selenide or cadmium sulphide layers that it can be manufactured uniformly and homogeneously and that it shows no change in conductivity in the presence of incident light. Moreover, there is no need for the relevant base (42) to be heated separately when the tellurium layer is applied.
