DEVICE FOR COOLING AND CONVEYING RABBITS IN A PNEUMATIC TUBE SYSTEM
1958
The device described is for the conveyance and cooling of rabbits in pneumatic tube systems where the rabbit is exposed to the radiation of a nuclear reactor or a particle accelerator. In the pneumatic tube system a single fluid medium is present for transferring the rabbit into and out of the radiation field as well as for cooling it. At the proper position inside the radiation field the rabbit is stopped or slowed down by a brake mechantsm. The rabbit has helical ribs on its surface. The action of the pressurized fluid on the ribs gives the rabbit an angular momentum so that it rotates. A loose fit between the tube and the rabbit enables the fluid medium to be forced through the ring shaped space in order to cool the rabbit. (H.K.)
