INFLUENCIA DE LOS FACTORES AMBIENTALES EN LAS ALTERACIONES DEL SUEÑO DE LOS PACIENTES DE UNA UNIDAD CORONARIA
2011
The patients admitted to intensive care units can experience sleep pattern alterations, due to the special characteristics of these units, among other reasons. The observation of this reality and the review of the vaste existing bibliography drive us to think of starting a study that it considers to be, in a particular way, the factors that can influence significantly the quality of the dream of the coronary patients and the possible future interventions on those factors in our nursery department. Therefore the aim of this study is to establish a relation between certain environmental factors, such as noise, continuous artificial light and nursery actions, and patient's dreams quality check at the coronary unit at Valladolid university clinic hospital. To come to this conclusion, 105 surveys and 51 interviews were carried out, valuing the subjective perception of each individual patient check at the unit about his own rest. Limited mobility was perceived as the most influential environmental factor, followed by noise and light. Nursery actions were not perceived as a trouble or negative influence. However, patients mentioned other "not environmental" factors, such as fear of dying or worry, as causes of his rest-sleep alterations. Nursery staff at intensive coronary units must considered to take actions addressed to minimizing the impact of those factors on our patients dreams.
