Properties of glutamate dehydrogenase from Bacillus subtilis

1979
Abstract Bacillus subtilis strain 168 possesses an NAD-dependent glutamate dehydrogenase. The level of this enzyme is influenced by the stage of growth, the source of nitrogen, and a high rate of tryptophan biosynthesis. The enzyme appears to serve an anabolic function and, therefore, must be considered as a possible route for the incorporation of inorganic nitrogen into an organic form.
