Effectiveness of stent Placement in Patients with Hypertension Caused by Renal Artery Stenosis

2010
Objective To study the effectiveness of stent placement in patients with hypertension caused by renal artery stenosis. Methods Twenty-three patients with poorly controlled hypertension for severe renal artery stenosis were treated by stents. Their blood pressure were measured at baseline and during follow-up. Results Stents placement were performed on 23 patients successfully. After the procedure, the mean systolic blood pressure of the patients was reduced from 180.2±42.3 mmHg to 136.5±23.3mmHg(the second day of the procedureP0.05) . The mean diastolic blood pressure of the patients was reduced from 115.2±32.1mmHg to 85.21±34.3mmHg(the second day of the procedure)(P0.05) . The number of hypertensive drugs sorts was reduced from 2.8±0.3 to 1.3±0.2(P0.05) . Conclusions Renal artery stenting for renal artery stenosis has a benefi cial effect on blood pressure control.
