Investigation ofVolumeControl forHearing AidsUsingaModified Coherence SpeechIntelligibility IndexMeasurement

2008
This workpresents theinvestigation ofvolume controlfor hearing aids using objective speech intelligibility measures. Inorder toeffectively assess theimpact ofvarious volume levels onspeech intelligibility forthehearing impaired, wepropose anewmethod to measure speech intelligibility bymodifying thecoherence speech intelligibility index measurement. Intheproposed method, the one-third-octave filter bankisapplied andthecoherence function is calculated foreachbandtoestimate thenoise and/or distortion components within thecorresponding bandTheperformance ofthe proposed methodisdemonstrated though experiments onspeech signals corrupted withadditive noise, peakandcenter clipping distortions.
