Sodium/Potassium/Chloride Co-Transport

1995
Considerable recent interest in the Na/K/Cl co-transport system in airways smooth muscle has been generated by studies showing that the loop diuretic frusemide, a potent inhibitor of co-transport, provides protection against several bronchoconstriction challenges in asthma (Table 1). This is particularly interesting as frusemide has the same protective profile as two other established anti-asthma drugs, sodium cromoglycate and nedocromil sodium, suggesting that they may share a common mechanism of action.
