Measurement of the spin-flip probability for the [sup 12]C([ital [rvec d]],[ital [rvec d]][prime])[sup 12]C(12. 7 MeV) reaction with a tensor polarimeter

1995
We report on the first measurement of tensor polarization transfer coefficients for the excitation of the 12.7 MeV 1[sup +] state of [sup 12]C by ([ital [rvec d]],[ital [rvec d]]) inelastic scattering at 393 MeV. The experiment has been performed at Saturne with a tensor polarimeter. The data have allowed the determination of the spin-flip probability [ital S][sub 1], found to be in good agreement with the approximate signature [ital S][sub [ital d]][sup [ital y]] determined previously with a vector polarimeter. The relationships between measured polarizations and analyzing powers are discussed.
