The role of extra-regional powers in attempt to substitute the destiny of East Timor is significant. This attempt was stipulated the colonial period. In 1974 Portugal adopted the East Timor's right to self-determination. This sort of adoption was justified by the civil war. On December 7, 1975 1975 the Indonesian troops landed in East Timor and in July 1976 East Timor was formally integrated as the province of Indonesia. The Indonesian actions in East Timor were classified as a manifestation of authoritarianism and genocide. Portugal appealed to the United Natioas Security Council. The East Timor problem caused serious difficulties in international relations in South-East Asia.
