A Superconducting Air Core Toroid Muon Spectrometer for the Empact/Texas Detector

1991
The primary effort after the submittal of the Expression of Interest (EOI)[1] in May 1990 was downscoping the EMPACT/TEXAS detector system to reduce cost. This required parameterizing the various detector systems to determine performance-cost sensitivities, and design modifications to determine absolute cost reductions. The result of this work was the Letter of Intent (LOI) [2] document submitted to the SSCL in December 1990. In support of the LOI, work during this phase of conceptual design focussed on expanding the analysis and design of the superconducting toroid magnets, developing analysis and design details for the muon detector spectrometers, and modifying the support structure of the overall muon detector system.
