PROLIFERATIVE VERRUCOUS LEUKOPLAKIA: A CASE REPORT

2020
A 71-year-old male patient was admitted to the stomatology service complaining of white plaques extending all over the back and tongue border surrounded by erythematous areas, with complaints of burning and discomfort during feeding. Previous medical history is cardiopathy and hypertension, and he is an ex-smoker. In oroscopy, a thick white plaque with a rough aspect was found extending all over the back and edges of the tongue and ulcerated areas with hypothesis of autoimmune disease and proliferative verrucous leukoplakia. An incisional biopsy was performed, and results suggested microinvasive area that remained in clinical control for 2 months, requiring a new biopsy with results showing severe dysplasia, acanthosis, and hyperkeratosis, confirming the diagnostic hypothesis of proliferative verrucous leukoplakia. The patient remains in follow-up, evolving satisfactorily.
