The Effect of Dryer Section Operation on the Linting Propensity of Newsprint

2008
The linting tendency of paper produced for offset printing can be significantly affected by the operation of the paper machine dryer section. Measurements on commercial paper machines have shown that, under certain conditions, the paper web will adhere to a dryer cylinder which will disrupt the paper surface, making it more susceptible to linting. Dryer surface temperature is a critical factor and improvements are possible on some paper machines by making simple modifications to dryer operation.
