MODELO ONTOLÓGICO COMO APOYO A LA TOMA DE DECISIONES EN OPORTUNIDADES DE ESTUDIO / Ontological Model as Support for Decision Making in Study Opportunities

El objetivo de la presente investigacion es proponer un modelo ontologico que sirva de apoyo a la toma de decisiones en el proceso de seleccion de oportunidades de estudio del subsistema de educacion superior (SES) venezolano. La problematica estriba en la complejidad que entrana la seleccion de una carrera universitaria, lo cual no es sencillo para los estudiantes, puesto que existe una multiplicidad de variables que es necesario evaluar. Para la declaracion de tal modelo, se reusara la informacion suministrada por la Oficina de Planificacion del Sector Universitario (OPSU) bajo el paradigma ontologico, para obtener un producto representativo del dominio; la ontologia fue desarrollada usando Methontology y fue representada usando la herramienta Protege 3.1.1., basada en el lenguaje ontologico para la web (OWL). En sintesis, con la implementacion de la ontologia sera posible enriquecer el modelo existente (Libro de Oportunidades de Estudio, LOE), de manera tal que se pueda presentar informacion con mayor significado y mas articulada a su contexto, con lo que se aspira ayudar al estudiante a decidirse por estudios que satisfagan sus expectativas, a elegir una opcion optima en cuanto a costo/beneficio, a evaluar requerimientos institucionales con su perfil de egreso de bachillerato, entre otras estimaciones que podrian considerarse. ABSTRACT The main objective of this research is to propose an ontological model that supports decision making in the process of selecting study opportunities in the Venezuelan higher education subsystem (SES). The problem lies in the complexity of choosing a study program in a higher education institution, which is not easy for students, since there is a multiplicity of variables to be evaluated. For the design of this model, information provided by the University Sector Planning Office (OPSU in Spanish), has been reused, under the ontological paradigm, to obtain a product representative of the domain. The ontology associated was developed using Methontology and was registered using the Protege tool 3.1.1, based on Ontological Web Language (OWL). In brief, with this ontological implementation, it will be possible to enrich the previous reference model (Study Opportunities Book Act), so that it can show the associated information in a more meaningful way, and better related to its context, thus aiming to help students decide their preferred studies and those institutions that meet their expectations. That way, the best option may be chosen in terms of cost/benefit ratio, and an assessment of the institutional requirements be made according to their achieved high school profile, among other estimates that could be considered.
