In India : Different curricula for girls and boys?

1998
Although official educational policy in the Delhi School Board articulates a common core curriculum for boys and girls prior to Grade 10, historical and current cultural realities make implementation difficult. Teachers face parental resistance with respect to attendance, enrolments in core and optional courses, and future career opportunities. Unless community and family norms are respected, progress with respect to participation in formal education for girls will be slow. Nevertheless, enrolment rates are increasing and societal attitudes are changing. Particularly important are the contributions made by pioneer women educators and researchers, and the girls' own resiliency.
