A CONTRIBUTION TO THE DETERMINATION OF STATIC FRICTION COEFFICIENTS OF TRANSVERSE LOADED BOLTED JOINTS WITH REGARD TO THEIR SAFE DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION
2009
Safe design and optimization of transverse loaded bolted joints require the knowledge about realistic static friction coefficients on the interfaces of the clamped parts. Common handbooks and standardized guidelines offer only wide ranges of values which are based on investigations decades ago. No account is taken to industrial requirements of today and so in a lot of cases the values are unsatisfactory. Theoretical considerations are useful for assessment the tendency of the influence of significant parameters but they don't supply the quantities for safe design of high-duty joints. Theory and practice complete one another if experimental tests are carried out. This paper presents an overlook about the influence of parameters from the theoretical view and shows the way to evaluate updated quantities for actual applications by experimental tests.
