Federation of Private IaaS Cloud Providers through the Barter of Resources

This paper presents the Fogbow middleware. This middlewareaddresses cloud federation challenges by providing an additional layer for federation atop each local private IaaS that wants to join the federation. It uses designed-to-federate, internet-friendly technologies like XMPP and it is flexible enough to deal with a wide range of cloud technologies, since it provides a plugin framework for allowing simplerinteroperation with a wide range of orchestrators. The pluginframework is also useful to define the behaviour of each member of the federation, providing greater autonomy tothese members. A lightweight business model based onbarter has been implemented and provides a cheap way tofederate small and medium size private IaaS cloud providers.
