Inverse Dynamics and Energetics

The chapter describes the computation of resultant joint forces and moments and segmental and joint energetics. Inverse dynamics allows computation of the resultant joint forces and moments; the assumptions in such an analysis are described as are the formulation of the equations for performing such an analysis. The options for the computation of segment and joint energetics are presented, and the connection between mechanical energy and metabolic costs is discussed; the problems (paradoxes) with making this connection are described.
