Semi - quantitative and Quantitative Evaluation of Diffusion Tensor Tractography:Correlation of Corticospinal Tract Injury and the Outcome of Motor Function after Intracerebral Hemorrhage

2011
Purpose:To investigate the predicting value for the motor function by analyzing corticospinal tract(CST) injury after intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH) with semi - quantitative and quantitative diffusion tensor tractography(DTT).Methods:Diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) was performed in twenty - two acute ICH patients, whose basal ganglia, internal capsule and corona radiate were involved. The CST of the affected side was reconstructed with Volume - One 1.64 and diffusion Tensor Visualizer II (dTVII) software from Tokyo University. The Involvement Scale of CST(IS),which was used as a semi -quantitative indicator, was evaluated. The relative remaining number of CST,which was used as a quantitative indicator, was calculated.Fugl - Meyer scoring was used to evaluate the prognosis. Results: The correlation coefficient(r value) between involvement scale of CST and Fugl - Meyer score after six month of ICH was 0.835(P 0.01).The correlation coefficient(r value) between relative remaining number of CST and Fugl- Meyer score after six month of ICH was 0.847(P 0.01).Conclusion:Semiquantitative and quantitative DTT of CST could be used to predict the motor function in ICH patients.
