DEFINING TEACHER TRAINING COMPETENCIES

2021
This article examines the relevant teacher and trainer competencies as these impact in ‘educational settings’ and ‘government institutions’, the related standards applicable for each environment and the application of management practices, particularly the notion of ‘Supervision’. Supervision in an Indonesian context plays a significant role in the ‘management’ of the educational system and recognises the difficulty of managing human resources efficiently and effectively. Managing is a process of getting things done through the efforts of others, and the challenge is to provide the necessary encouraging environment to achieve these outcomes (Robbins, Decenzo, & Coulter, 1997). Management, apart from its regulatory role (Hidayat & Machali, 2012), functions to provide a framework and process to achieve organisational goals through planning, arranging, leading and controlling (Kadarman & Udayana, 2001). Keywords: Competency development, cultural awareness, human capability development.
