3-mm pulsed magnetrons for radar applications

2001
Millimeter wave radars have developed quickly during the last twenty years. They may be used as collision avoidance radars, for territory of air and sea ports observation, fire control, mapping, meteorological, missile-tracking, beam-rider, target-seeker and other uses. As a rule, such systems are required to have high accuracy and resolution as well as small weight and dimensions. In many cases to satisfy that requirement is possible by use of magnetrons as microwave generators. The problem is the strongly restricted choice of magnetrons in the short millimeter-wave band. Present report is a summary of work, performed in Institute of Radio Astronomy for creation of 3-mm magnetron series for radar application. During performance of this work the aim was to create a series at various powers, as possible low voltage, compact, and relatively low cost magnetrons having wide functional capabilities.
