The method of manufacturing scandium oxide

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing scandium oxide capable of producing scandium oxide in which the content of a sulfur component is suppressed upon obtaining scandium oxide from scandium oxalate including a sulfur-containing compound as impurities.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing scandium oxide where scandium oxalate including a sulfur-containing compound as impurities is heated in a state where a carbon source is coexistent. The present amount of oxygen upon performance of the heating treatment is preferably below an amount required for oxidizing all carbon atoms included in the carbon source. As the scandium oxalate, precipitates obtained by adding oxalic acid to a scandium-containing sulfuric acid acidic solution are preferable, and, as the sulfuric acid acidic solution, the solution obtained by adding a neutralizer to a leachate is preferable.SELECTED DRAWING: None
